This Race

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.
— 1 Corinthians 9:24

We all have a race to run that's inside of the great race we are all running.

Their race might be a relationship/marriage while yours is singleness.

Their race may be raising children while yours is breathing the prayer Hannah prayed (1 Samuel 9-11).

Their race may be traveling the far reaches of the world while yours is managing the life you have at home.

Your race might be enduring the heartache of a prodigal son or brother and they may not understand.

Their race may look like a life that's busily interesting while your race feels like a "small" life.

I have been standing amidst changes lately. Roads that are turning in ways I did not foresee. (Can we ever foretell God's will?) Did life leave me behind? No. God foreknew each step of my race before the beginning of time.

My life may not look like the lives of those closest to me. But my life looks exactly as God planned it to be.

This is the race God has asked me to run.
